Kavango west: Chairperson of the Namibia National Solidarity Campaign in support of Cuba, Helmut Angula, on Friday met with the Kavango West regional leadership to brief them on the situation in Cuba and the national solidarity drive. Addressing regional, political, and traditional leaders, Angula stated that Cuba is facing a severe socio-economic crisis due to over 60 years of economic blockade by the United States of America.According to Namibia Press Agency, the situation has recently intensified with restrictions on oil exports, significantly affecting key sectors such as health, energy, education, and agriculture, placing immense strain on the Cuban people. In response, Angula noted that the Namibia-Cuba Friendship Association and the Sam Nujoma Foundation launched the Namibians in Solidarity with the People of Cuba campaign to mobilize financial and material support.Angula explained that the initiative recognizes Cuba's role in defending the dignity of African people, especially its participation in the fight against apartheid South Africa, which contributed to peace in southern Africa and Namibia's independence. He acknowledged that Namibia is a small country with limited financial capacity but emphasized that this should not hinder their humanitarian efforts.Kavango West Regional Governor, Verna Sinimbo, highlighted that Namibia's friendship with Cuba was born during the most challenging days of the liberation struggle, when Namibia faced colonial occupation and apartheid rule. She called on all sectors of society in Kavango West to support the campaign as a unified effort.During the meeting, leaders contributed N$34,450 towards the campaign, with the newly-elected committee expected to continue mobilization efforts across the region.
