Kudu Overpowers UNAM to Strengthen Top Four Position

Windhoek: Defending champions Kudu Rugby Club produced a commanding display at the UNAM Stadium on Saturday, defeating the home side 41-27 in their Round Six Namibia Rugby Union (NRU) Premier League encounter.According to Namibia Press Agency, UNAM, who had recorded only two wins from their previous five matches, suffered another setback against the coastal outfit. Kudu also entered the match seeking consistency after a mixed start to the season, having won three of their opening five fixtures.The hosts made a bright start in front of their supporters, scoring an early try and adding two penalties to open a 13-0 lead. Kudu, however, gradually took control of the contest and responded with three tries, two of which were converted, to turn the match around before half-time. The visitors went into the break leading 21-13.Kudu maintained their momentum in the second half, adding three more tries, two conversions, and a penalty. UNAM responded with two converted tries but were unable to match the defending c hampions' intensity and execution. For UNAM, Alcino Isaacs, Victor Augustinus, and Seblon Mangundu crossed the try line, while Aljarreau Zaahl added three conversions and two penalties.Aston Mukwilongo starred for Kudu with a hat-trick of tries. Tonderai Ndudzo, Clayton Camm, and Ja-Tamson van der Berg also scored tries. Aurelio Plato contributed two conversions and a penalty, while Cejay Coetzee and Denzo Bruwer each added a conversion. The victory keeps Kudu fourth on the standings with 25 points, while UNAM drops to seventh place on 13 points.Elsewhere, Rehoboth secured their second win of the season with a 44-19 victory over Western Suburbs at home. The result moves Rehoboth up to fifth place on 15 points, while Suburbs remain at the bottom of the table.In Grootfontein, the hosts reclaimed top spot after edging Dolphins 41-36 in a closely contested encounter. Dolphins, among the league's most improved sides this season, pushed Grootfontein throughout the match but ultimately fell short. The win sees Grootfontein return to the summit of the standings on 32 points, overtaking Wanderers, who had a bye and remain second on 30 points.United also recorded an emphatic 57-21 victory over Reho Falcon in Rehoboth. The result strengthens United's hold on third place and leaves them just one point behind Wanderers. United now have 29 points, while Falcons remain eighth on seven points.Round seven of the NRU Premier League is scheduled for the weekend of 27 June 2026, with matches set to take place in Swakopmund, Walvis Bay, Rehoboth, and Windhoek.
