Khorixas: The special elections for the 2025 Regional Council and Local Authority elections began slowly across the Khorixas, Outjo, and Kamanjab constituencies in the Kunene Region on Monday.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Returning Officer for the Khorixas Constituency, Timotheus Aibeb, stated that voting had been sluggish, partly due to some polling officials being in Kamanjab to collect non-sensitive materials needed for the election. He mentioned that provisions have been made for polling officials to vote in their respective constituencies and return to their duties. Despite the slow start, Aibeb reported that the voting process was proceeding smoothly without any significant issues, noting that the polling officials were well-trained and efficiently managing their responsibilities.

Kizzy Dudu-Murorua, the Returning Officer for the Kamanjab Constituency regional council elections, highlighted that the special elections were specifically for ECN officials and police officers. She explained that the ECN was in the process of verifying and distributing non-sensitive election materials in Kamanjab. Furthermore, mobile and fixed teams from Outjo and Khorixas had made their way to Kamanjab to collect these materials. Dudu-Murorua confirmed that the special election in Kamanjab was progressing well without any reported challenges.

Solomon Mbulu, the Presiding Officer at the Outjo Police Station, echoed a similar sentiment, stating that everything was running smoothly at his polling station. He anticipated an increase in voter turnout later in the day as many had already registered their names in advance to vote.

The main election day is set for 26 November, when the general populace will cast their votes in the Regional Councils and Local Authorities Elections.
