A 24-year-old man died instantly Sunday night after he was allegedly hit by a vehicle on the B1 road around 19h44.

Spokesperson of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Otjozondjupa Region, Inspector Maureen Mbeha, in an interview with Nampa on Monday said the deceased was identified as Ngero Tjitenda from Farm Vrede, situated approximately 64 kilometres north of Okahandja.

Mbeha said the deceased was allegedly run over when he tried to cross the B1 road.

“He had received a parcel from a vehicle that came from Okahandja’s direction and it was stationary alongside the road. He then crossed with the parcel in his hands, but suddenly another vehicle which was also coming from the Okahandja side hit him, causing his death,” said Mbeha.

Tjitenda’s employer was then informed, while some of his relatives came to the accident scene to identify him, Mbeha said.

A culpable homicide docket was opened at the Okahandja Police Station against the 26-year-old female driver.

Police investigations continue.
