Cheto:A 31-year-old man was found dead in the Cheto area of the Kongola Constituency on Monday, in what appears to be a suicide.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the man, identified as Joseph Johannes Gwaya from Thikundeko village, was discovered hanging from a tree with a chain around his neck. He had left his village around 09h00 after reportedly telling residents it would be his last day there, prompting concern among family members.

Family members, alerted by his ominous farewell, began to monitor Gwaya. When he later vanished from the village, they followed his footprints into the bush, where they found him deceased.

The family contacted officers at the Cheto Police Station, who responded to the scene. Gwaya's body was then taken to the Cheto Police Station and awaited transfer by a forensic team to the Katima Mulilo State Hospital mortuary. An inquest docket is set to be opened at the Menias Brian Libuto Police Station in Kongola as investigations continue. The deceased's next of kin have been notified.
