The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Oshikoto Region arrested a 46-year-old Namibian man for allegedly being found in possession of duiker meat and pieces of Kori bustard bird meat.
According to Oshikoto NamPol crime investigations coordinator Deputy Commissioner Titus Ekandjo on Friday, the incident happened on Wednesday at a privately-owned farm in the Cham-Cham area in the Nehale Lyampingana Constituency.
The suspect is a worker at the farm and allegedly used a licensed shotgun that belonged to the farm owner, and a case of hunting protected game and game birds without a permit was opened against the suspect.
‘The suspect was arrested during an intelligence-driven operation by Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism members in collaboration with the police,’ Ekandjo said.
He said the recovered duiker meat was valued at N.dollars 3 400 while the bird meat was at a value of N.dollars 2 400.
The suspect is expected to appear before the Tsumeb Magistrate’s Court.
