Mbumba pins hope on US investors for economic growth

Vice President Nangolo Mbumba on Tuesday said he hopes a group of potential investors from the United States of America (USA) who are in Namibia to explore investment opportunities, can bring about much needed development and economic growth.

He was speaking during a courtesy visit here by the delegation led by US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, Akunna Cook.

“Namibia is ready to do business with the US and hopefully be introduced to its finer business structure development and principles in various sectors, which can bring about infrastructure development and economic growth so that we continue to enjoy the peace we so value,” he said.

Mbumba said Namibia’s peace and stability can only be maintained if issues such as youth unemployment and education, amongst others, are addressed.

He further indicated that Namibia has many opportunities for investors such as in renewable energy, water and petroleum, especially with the recent oil discoveries by international oil companies which announced that they had made significant oil discoveries off the coast of Namibia.

Meanwhile, Cook said US investors hope to bring about development and skills transfer in a transparent and equitable manner.

“Economic diplomacy is a cornerstone for the US and Namibia. One of the goals is to change the narrative of how America and the world sees Africa, not as a place of disease and disasters, but as a place of opportunities. The continent not only has solutions for African problems, but it has African solutions to global problems,” Cook stated.
