Namibia Football Association (NFA) marketing and communications manager, Cassius Moetie, has expressed dissatisfaction towards other sports federations for not reaching out to the NFA during its woes.

The NFA and Namibia Premier League have been involved in endless infighting that has ended up in the courts.

“I am not just talking about calling the NFA. I mean actually coming to us and discussing how, as federations and people who love the game of sports, they can help, because they have a principal mandate to develop sports for the youth and upcoming generations,” he said during an MTC annual sponsorship engagement at Swakopmund on Monday.

The session was amongst others meant to engage the beneficiaries around issues of branding; reputation; handling of financial affairs and processes; as well as creating and maintaining sound media relation.

Moetie further added that it is the responsibility of all sport federations, and not just the sponsor MTC, to ensure that sport is developed for the sake of the country.

“MTC has brought us together and they have explained how our policies should sync with their philosophy. So please show us your support, have sympathy when we are criticised and stand up for us when we are unfairly criticised when we are not there to defend ourselves, because we all have the same interests and objectives at heart. We are just doing different sports codes.”

Moetie also highlighted intentions by the Namibian and Batswana governments to host the Africa Cup of Nations in 2027, noting that it requires shared effort for it to become a reality.

“Although this must still go through Cabinet for approval and government is playing their role to attract tourism and improve the economy, it will still be the NFA’s baby as we are the principal custodians. We will therefore need all of you because it will not just be an NFA event, it will be a Namibian thing and we will need your support, no matter what sports code you are a president of,” he added.

Moetie further gave his assurance that the NFA will get out of its current predicament and will eventually make its sponsors and the entire country proud.

The association is awaiting an elective congress in April 2022.
