Nyaungshwe: A traditional leg-rowing boat race will be held on the renowned Inle Lake in Nyaungshwe township of Shan state, an official from the Nyaungshwe township's Information and Public Relations Department said. "We will hold a leg-rowing boat race on September 26, and the semifinals and finals will take place on September 28," Nay Myo Thurein, an official from the department, told Xinhua.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the race will feature a variety of categories, including a men's race with about 100 paddlers, a 46-paddler men's race, a 26-paddler women's race, a 26-paddler students' race, and a single-paddler race. Nay Myo Thurein explained that the aim of the boat race is to preserve the traditional leg-rowing technique, celebrate the pagoda festival, and attract visitors from other regions.
Another leg-rowing boat race is scheduled for October 8 and 9 on Inle Lake. These traditional boat races are an integral part of the Inle Lake Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda Festival. Inle Lake, which covers an area of 489,721 hectares, is situated in Nyaungshwe Township, Taunggyi District, in the southern part of Shan state.
