Namibia beat Zimbabwe at Cosana Tri-nations

The national senior netball team, ‘Debmarine Desert Jewels’ beat Zimbabwe 38-34 on day two of the Confederation of Southern African Netball Associations (Cosana) Tri-nations Cup currently underway in Malawi.

The Cosana Tri-nations Cup is being used by Namibia to improve on their ranking as well as prepare the senior team for the Africa World Cup qualifiers set for 20 to 25 August 2022 in Cape Town which has other nations such as host Malawi, Zimbabwe, Zimbabwe Under-19 and Namibia U-19.

On the second day of the tournament, the Debmarine Desert Jewels who started the competition on a wrong note on Sunday losing to host Malawi 23-60 and Zimbabwe 36-48, made a recovery when they beat Zimbabwe in their second encounter.

The Namibian ladies did not drop a point throughout the four quarters of the game on Tuesday morning.

The opening quarter of the game saw Namibia giving it their all ending 10-8, and their two points lead was extended to six in the second quarter which ended 20-14. The Zimbabwean ladies showed their experience in the third quarter by reducing the score margin to three points with that quarter ending 28-25.

The fourth quarter saw both teams going all out but the Namibian ladies were the better team on the day as the game ended in their favour with a four-point margin of 38-34 to register their first win at the tri-nations.

Namibia’s next match at the championship will be against Malawi on Tuesday at 18h00.
