Windhoek: Namibia's new Instant Payment Solution (IPS) has completed pilot testing in a live production environment, marking the final milestone before its phased national rollout. The pilot phase involved the successful processing of live transactions between the Bank of Namibia's (BoN's) Currency Management and Banking Operations (CMBO) Department and the first cohort of participating institutions, namely Bank Windhoek, NamPost, and Letshego Bank Namibia.According to Namibia Press Agency, in a press statement issued on Friday, Instant Payment Namibia (IPN) Chief Operating Officer Marsorry Ickua said the successful transfer and receipt of funds confirmed the platform's operational readiness and demonstrated its ability to process instant payments securely and efficiently. Ickua stated, "The successful completion of pilot testing represents a significant milestone in Namibia's payments modernisation journey. For the first time, we have demonstrated instant payments operating successfully in a live productio n environment, confirming that the solution is ready for implementation."Ickua noted that the achievement follows extensive development, testing, and validation activities undertaken by the BoN, IPN, and participating institutions. Following the successful pilot phase, the solution will be introduced through a controlled, phased rollout, beginning with Government-to-Person (G2P) payments. This rollout will enable participating institutions to receive and disburse government social grants through the platform."This brings us one step closer to delivering a payment experience that is faster, more convenient, and more accessible for all Namibians," said Ickua. Subsequent phases of implementation will introduce additional payment use cases aimed at improving accessibility, convenience, and financial inclusion across the country.Instant payments are transactions processed and settled within seconds, allowing funds to be transferred and received immediately between accounts at any time, including after bankin g hours, weekends, and public holidays.
