Windhoek: The Roads Authority (RA) has clarified the financial expenditure on the installation of speed humps on the B1 Western Bypass and the A1 Road behind Prosperita, stating that the project cost approximately N. dollars 704,000, contrary to the N. dollars 12 million figure speculated on social media.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the RA issued a media statement on Friday explaining that the installation of the speed humps was an immediate road safety response to a surge in pedestrian-related crashes, including fatal accidents, in the specified areas. The allocated N. dollars 704,000 covered the costs of procuring the speed humps, road signs, and transportation from South Africa.
The RA emphasized that the speed humps serve as a temporary measure to enhance road safety by reducing vehicle speeds, improving driver awareness, and protecting pedestrians while more comprehensive solutions are being developed.
Motorists are urged by the RA to abide by road signs, reduce speed near the affected areas, and stay vigilant. Pedestrians are encouraged to use designated crossing points where available and exercise caution when crossing busy roads.
