Namibia’s oil discovery should come with peace: Nandi-Ndaitwah

Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, has called for peace and stability to prevail over the recent oil discoveries in Namibia.

Speaking at a meeting with a delegation of potential United State of America investors on Monday, Nandi-Ndaitwah said when countries, especially those in Africa, discover strategic resources such as oil, it is usually coupled with instability.

Recently, international oil companies announced they had made significant oil discoveries in deep waters off the coast of Namibia in the Orange Basin and in the Kavango Delta basin.

“Should the oil discovery come true, it should contribute to the peace and stability that we enjoyed since independence,” she said.

She further indicated that the country’s peace and stability is fragile as many young people are unemployed, stressing that the oil discovery should be a link to grow the Namibian economy and ensure job creation.

Nandi-Ndaitwah stressed that employment creation can only be achieved through economic growth, to ensure a shared prosperity for Namibians.
