NamPol Annual Sports Games Kick Off at Otjiwarongo

Otjiwarongo: The Namibian Police Force's 2025 annual sports games commenced at the Paresis Sports Stadium in Otjiwarongo with athletics on Monday. The event was officially launched by NamPol Inspector-General, Lieutenant-General Joseph Shikongo.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the 28th edition of the championships began with a roll call of the 14 regional police teams. Lieutenant-General Shikongo emphasized the importance of the games as part of the police force's fitness program. He stressed that the force requires "mentally and physically fit, disciplined members" to effectively combat crime.

Lieutenant-General Shikongo stated that the event is not about winning or losing but about maintaining professionalism and discipline, urging participants to compete without cheating. The games see the participation of 1,617 individuals competing in various sports such as athletics, football, netball, volleyball, rugby, pool, and chess.

Commissioner Ferdinand Nangolo, Chairperson of the NamPol Sports Council, urged sports officers and coaches to ensure timely commencement of games and encouraged teamwork and collective celebration. The tournament will conclude with the awarding of medals and trophies to winners in each category on Saturday.

The previous annual sports games in 2024 took place in Keetmanshoop, located in the Kharas Region.
