Rundu:Public servants have been urged to remain at their workstations during official working hours and to refrain from conducting personal business or engaging in activities that interfere with service delivery.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Public Service Commission (PSC) Chairperson, Ambassador Patrick Nandago, issued this warning during consultations with officials from the Kavango East Regional Council, the Education and Health directorates, and the Namibian Police in Rundu.

The commission is in Rundu to engage stakeholders, assess compliance with human resource standards, and address challenges affecting public service delivery. Nandago expressed concern over reports that some government employees use working hours to sell products, attend to personal matters, and engage in activities unrelated to their official responsibilities. He stated that such conduct undermines the purpose of government offices, which exist to provide services to citizens.

Nandago highlighted that public servants are paid to perform their official responsibilities during working hours and must demonstrate professionalism, commitment, and accountability. He called on managers and supervisors to address misconduct and ensure employees remain focused on their duties.

PSC Commissioner Habatte Doeses also emphasized the importance of employee induction, orientation, and continuous training in maintaining professional standards. She encouraged public servants to seek refresher training to strengthen their understanding of workplace procedures, regulations, and responsibilities. Continuous training, she noted, would help public servants remain informed about their duties and improve their ability to serve the public effectively.
