NamPol arrest 23 in allged wildlife crimes

The Namibian Police Force Protected Resource Division in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism (MEFT) have arrested and charged 23 people involved in alleged wildlife crimes between 18 to 24 October.

MEFT Public Relations Officer Romeo Muyunda in the weekly wildlife crime report on Tuesday said the ministry registered nine new cases of wildlife crimes with suspects allegedly found with elephant tusks, lion skin, live pangolins, African skunk skin, oryx carcass, waterbuck carcass while others were arrested for elephant poaching and trafficking.

He said the suspects who have all appeared in court were arrested at Katima Mulilo, Witvlei, Outapi, Rundu, Okahao, Omakange, Ndiyona and Katutura on charges of illegal possession and dealing of controlled wildlife products, illegal hunting of huntable game, illegal hunting on state land, capturing and killing of wild animals without a permit and disguising the unlawful origin of the property amongst others.

Among the suspects are one an Angolan and a Zimbabwean national.
