Omuthiya: The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Oshikoto Region will deploy 540 officers to ensure law and order at polling stations across the region during the 2025 Regional Councils and Local Authorities Elections. Speaking at the NamPol Regional Headquarters in Omuthiya, Regional Commander, Commissioner Ndafudha lifo, confirmed that two officers will be stationed at each of the 269 fixed and mobile polling stations, while an additional two officers will guard the Electoral Commission of Namibia's (ECN) sensitive materials depot.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the deployment also includes 22 officers - two per constituency - who will be positioned at the region's 11 constituencies, with these teams taking up their posts on Wednesday morning. Commissioner lifo stated that the force possesses sufficient police officers to maintain peace and security throughout the electoral process, adding that the ECN has provided transportation for all deployed officers.

She urged members of the public to strictly observe electoral regulations, including the prohibition on carrying firearms or dangerous weapons to polling stations. "Voters are reminded to form orderly queues and to refrain from wearing political attire, displaying party flags or conducting any form of campaigning within 500 metres of a polling station," the commander stated.

After casting his vote during Monday's special voting at the Omuthiya Police Station, Omuthiya Warrant Officer David Paulus, who will later be deployed to Olukonda Constituency, described the process as seamless. "The voting experience was smooth, despite the introduction of new casting procedures that differ from previous elections," he noted.

Special voting for eligible groups, including the police, correctional service personnel and election officials, will continue throughout Monday, while the main voting day for the general public is scheduled for Wednesday this week.
