Epukiro: An overcrowded classroom and concerns of unauthorised persons or animals accessing the Otjijere-based Jarijo kindergarten in Epukiro is now something of the past, after NamPower erected infrastructure at this early-childhood development centre in the Omaheke Region. The community school has been operating from a single corrugated iron structure in an open area for many years.
According to Namibia Press Agency, NamPower built new classroom infrastructure and a fence valued at N.dollars 777 165 in February 2025, officially handing it over on Thursday. Speaking at the ceremony, Head of NamPower Foundation, Otilie Mujoro said the donation is part of the power utility's commitment to the education of the Namibian child. Mujoro stated that NamPower believes that learner safety, a conducive learning environment, and infrastructure are prerequisites for producing a good schooling experience.
Mujoro elaborated, 'NamPower has been assisting the education sector through infrastructure development, renovations, donation of computers, provision of stationery, and furniture to schools and kindergartens countrywide.' Jarijo teacher Naomi Kajoomba Ruhumba expressed gratitude to NamPower for the development at the village ECD centre. 'We are happy and proud to see this wonderful initiative come to life. Your generous support has planted a seed of hope and growth in the hearts of our children and their families,' said Ruhumba.
This kindergarten, she mentioned, marks a strong step toward early childhood development in the settlement and community at large. Bolstered by the support, Ruhumba added that they would work hard to secure additional material for learning such as chairs, tables, a TV, computer and printer.
In his remarks at the event, Epukiro Constituency councillor Packy Pakarae also extended appreciation for NamPower's contribution, emphasising the significance of moulding kids at tender ages. 'This would lead to more sound performance in schools and at tertiary levels. We have a mandatory duty to provide better facilities and create an enabling learning environment for our future leaders,' said Pakarae.
