Helao nafidi: President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah on Saturday officially inaugurated the Helao Nafidi Sports Centre, describing it as an investment in youth development, economic growth, and community wellbeing. The President noted that the facility contributes directly to the government's prioritization of sport as a driver of socio-economic development, marking it as the first sports facility completed since the implementation of the Sixth National Development Plan (NDP6).According to Namibia Press Agency, Nandi-Ndaitwah emphasized that sports is not only recreation but also an industry, highlighting that the global sports economy creates employment opportunities for athletes, coaches, administrators, and other professionals. The President remarked that the opening of the Helao Nafidi Sports Centre represents a significant milestone, being the first constituency to benefit from the government's plan to establish at least one basic sports facility in each of Namibia's 121 constituencies.She pointed out that sport plays a critical role in promoting healthy lifestyles, reducing alcohol and substance abuse among young people, and fostering national unity and economic activity. The President urged residents and stakeholders to maintain the facility, envisioning it as a hub for sport, community engagement, and economic development for generations to come.Helao Nafidi Mayor, Darius Shaalukeni, expressed that the facility is an investment in youth empowerment, health, discipline, and community development, while also creating opportunities to host higher-level football matches in the Ohangwena Region. The leadership of the Eeshoke Chula Chula Football Club extended their gratitude to the Helao Nafidi Town Council, the Chinese Embassy for their contribution of N$2.5 million, and other stakeholders for supporting the project.The club emphasized that having a home ground would reduce travel and logistical costs, strengthen community identity, and create greater opportunities for player development and youth programmes .
