Windhoek: Afrikaanse Privaatskool (WAP) were crowned 2026 Momentum Namibia School Sport Union (NSSU) U19 Rugby Super League champions on Saturday after an emphatic 50-24 victory over arch-rivals Windhoek Gymnasium at the Hage Geingob Stadium.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the Momentum NSSU League brings together the country's top school rugby teams in a league format, with the top four advancing to the semi-finals and ultimately competing for the title.

In front of a packed western stand at the cathedral of Namibian rugby, the Hage Geingob Stadium, WAP produced a dominant second-half performance to secure a convincing victory over Windhoek Gymnasium, whom they had already beaten in the league fixture earlier this year. Both teams produced an entertaining and closely contested first half, showcasing skill, determination and endurance, ending the first half on 17 points each.

WAP, however, raised the tempo after the restart, replicating the intensity that saw them become the only team to defeat Windhoek Gymnasium during the league phase. The Affies, as WAP is affectionately known by their supporters and followers, ran in five more tries in the second half, converting four of them to add 33 points to their tally. Windhoek Gymnasium managed just one converted try after the break, adding seven points.

The victory saw WAP lift the coveted trophy for the first time since claiming back-to-back titles in 2018 and 2019. Windhoek Gymnasium had reached the final after an impressive 50-29 semi-final victory over PSG Roots Gymnasium, while WAP booked their place in the decider with a convincing 43-22 win over defending champions OK Foods Windhoek High School.

For Windhoek Gymnasium, the defeat extends their wait for another title. Their most recent championship came in 2023, when they shared the honours with Samsung Windhoek High School following a dramatic 34-34 draw. WAP's commanding display on Saturday ensured that the trophy returned to the Affies camp, capping a memorable 2026 campaign.
