Nearly 1.8 Million Afghan Refugees Return Home from Iran in Three Months

Kabul: The Afghan Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation announced on Wednesday that nearly 1.8 million Afghan refugees have returned home from Iran over the past three months. Mawlawi Abdul Rahman Rashid, the deputy minister of the ministry, stated that an additional 184,459 refugees have returned from Pakistan and 5,134 from Turkey in the past four months.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Rashid highlighted that there are approximately 6 million Afghan refugees living abroad and 2.5 million internally displaced persons within Afghanistan. The official further mentioned that 38 designated townships for refugees have been established across 29 provinces.

To aid returnees and displaced families, the ministry has secured 125 memoranda of understanding with both domestic and international organizations over the past year. These agreements have a combined value exceeding 78 million U.S. dollars. The Afghan interim government has urged Afghan refugees to return home to aid in the nation's rebuilding efforts.
