Ncamagoro: The Namibia Fish Consumption Promotion Trust (NFCPT) has delivered a significant boost to the educational facilities at Ekondjo Primary School in Kavango West Region's Ncamagoro Constituency by donating new classrooms and essential infrastructure valued at N.dollars 2.4 million.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the donation is part of the NFCPT's 'Catch Them Young' campaign and aims to address long-standing challenges at the school, which serves over 400 learners from Grades 0 to 7 and has 28 staff members. Previously, Ekondjo Primary School faced dire conditions, with classes being held under a tree due to a lack of proper facilities.
NFCPT Chief Executive Officer Victor Pea, during the handover ceremony, explained that a site visit confirmed the urgent need for better infrastructure. "The conditions at the school, with classes being held under a tree and a lack of proper office space, prompted immediate action from our management. The board was approached for emergency funding after a site visit confirmed the need for better infrastructure," Pea said.
The new infrastructure includes four classrooms, a strong room, a reception area, office space, a staff room, a board room, and ablution facilities. Additionally, a septic tank was installed, as the school previously lacked a proper sewage system.
Pea highlighted the broader vision behind the project, stating, "The inauguration marks the realisation of a vision for every Namibian child to have a safe and inspiring learning environment."
Ekondjo Primary School's principal, Reinhold Mutighoma, noted that previously, they had to stop classes whenever it rained. "We did not have enough classes and when it rained, lessons had to be stopped for us to find shelter," Mutighoma stated. He expressed gratitude for the donation and said the new classrooms will provide a safe and conducive environment for learning. He also emphasised the community's commitment to maintaining the new buildings.
