Rundu: The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Kavango East Region has inaugurated a new office at the Galaxy Mall in Rundu with the aim of boosting community engagement and making police services more accessible to the public. This move is expected to provide an alternative location for citizens to interact with law enforcement, thus alleviating congestion at the main Rundu Police Station.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Rundu police station commander, Chief Inspector Hermien Muranda, highlighted that the office space was generously donated in October of the previous year by Stina Wu, the owner of the mall. The new facility allows residents to access certain police services without the need to visit the often-busy main police station. Chief Inspector Muranda emphasized the convenience offered by the new location, stating that the services would mirror those available at the main station.

The office provides a variety of services, including the making of declarations and statements, certification of documents, and the registration of cases. Chief Inspector Muranda expressed the expectation that these services would help decongest the primary station and minimize wait times for the public. She stated, "Anything that is done in a charge office will also be catered for here."

Furthermore, Chief Inspector Muranda noted the positive impact of the police presence at the mall on local crime rates. She reported a noticeable deterrence in criminal activities, with no incidents of theft, robberies, or cellphone snatchings reported in the mall area since the office's opening. At the time of the launch, a team of at least seven police officers was assigned to the new office.
