Pretoria: Omaheke Governor Pijoo Nganate has said his office has prioritised the education of the Namibian child through the assistance of funding for educational needs. In his State of the Region Address (SORA) at Gobabis on Monday, Nganate announced that N$24 263.23 was provided for registration and tuition fees for students at the Namibian College for Open Learning (Namcol) and the Eureka Medical Institute.
According to Namibia Press Agency, this effort complements a separate partnership programme where the Rhani group of companies sponsored an additional 40 students at the cost of N$106 000 earlier this year. In addition, Nganate's office provided sports gear valued at N$9 989 to Vergenoeg Primary School, benefiting their netball, volleyball, and soccer teams. Epukiro Secondary School and Noasabis Primary School each received N$15 000 towards infrastructure development.
The initiative also allocated N$98 476.68 for purchasing equipment for youth-owned businesses. This sponsorship supported various youth initiatives, including procuring services from youth-led enterprises to stimulate the grassroots economy. Nganate further disclosed that N$71 825.95 was made available for community support and social projects such as the reintegration programme for children living and working on the streets, which is implemented through the Ministry of Gender Equality, Poverty Eradication and Child Welfare.
Additional support included providing building materials for the Nossobville cemetery, developing chess skills for two learners, and equipping the St Joel Apostolic Healing Mission Church with a sound system.
