Lagos: The Nigerian government on Sunday announced plans to establish digital technology hubs in at least 200 rural communities nationwide to improve education, communication, and connectivity. Tokoni Igoin, a special assistant to President Bola Tinubu on information and communication technology (ICT) development and digital innovation, stated that many rural communities in Nigeria are constrained by limited access to essential digital infrastructure, which has hindered their economic and educational progress.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Igoin emphasized that the deployment of these digital hubs aims to accelerate business growth and diversification through the integration of modern technology. The initiative is part of the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes the development of the ICT sector alongside other critical areas of the Nigerian economy.
Igoin further elaborated that the initiative seeks to reduce unemployment, poverty, and social vices by fostering innovation, building capa
city, and creating pathways for sustainable development. The establishment of these tech hubs is expected to play a crucial role in enhancing the digital landscape of rural Nigeria, thereby making significant strides toward economic empowerment and educational advancement in these regions.
