Gobabis: Newly elected chairperson of the Omaheke Regional Council, Rocco Nguvauva, has vowed to collaborate with all stakeholders to foster development in the region. The Okorukambe constituency councillor took over from Ignatius Kariseb (Kalahari), who was the chairperson for 15 years.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Nguvauva stated in an interview on Monday that he will work with all councillors - both old and newly elected - to develop Omaheke. 'We will support national programmes with enthusiasm, align our regional plans with the Swapo Party manifesto, the sixth National Development Plan (NDP6) and implement government policies with speed. Where we see gaps, we will propose solutions,' Nguvauva said.

He stressed that the people have spoken and want a council that listens, delivers and unites, while calling on the regional governor and central government to work hand-in-hand with the Omaheke Regional Council. He added that decentralisation does not mean separation, it means partnership.

The chairperson further said he will continue with the development agenda of the previous regional administration, focusing on road construction, land for farmers, and other farming facilities. Nguvauva's expanded development priorities also include the improvement of health services, ensuring education funding is increased, the creation of employment opportunities, the drilling of more boreholes, the upgrade of townships, and the support and recognition of sports in the region.

Nguvauva also acknowledged the Chief Regional Officer, Peka Semba, management, and staff members, saying that they are the engine room for the Omaheke Regional Council. He further acknowledged the important role played by the private sectors, traditional leaders, churches, and community organisations in the society.
