Omuthiya: Residents of Omuthiya town have pledged a total of N.dollars 96,500 for the completion of the Omuthiya Iipundi Secondary School hall. The pledges, made by local businesspeople and residents, were announced during a fundraising gala dinner for the completion of the school hall, held at Omuthiya Park on Friday.
According to Namibia Press Agency, in addition to cash pledges, contributors also offered 334 bags of cement, 60 rolls of brickforce, a goat, a sheep, two cows, a podium, five iron sheets, and 20 cubic metres of concrete. Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sport, Arts and Culture, Dino Ballotti, said many schools across the country, including this one, are operating under conditions of inadequate infrastructure and dilapidated classrooms. He assured the community that the government is working within available resources to improve school infrastructure across Namibia, despite high demand and the need for partnerships.
Ballotti highlighted the importance of the school hall, stating it will provide a proper space for examinations and school events, thereby restoring dignity to the learning environment and expanding opportunities for learners. He expressed gratitude towards the school management and all stakeholders involved for their efforts in advancing solutions to improve the learning environment.
Oshikoto Region Governor Sacky Kathindi shared that he visited the school in December 2025, engaging with its leadership and staff to witness the challenges firsthand. He emphasized that a school hall is a necessity for learning, assembly, cultural expression, and holistic development. Kathindi urged the business community and political leaders to recognize their critical role as key partners in development, noting that investment in education is ultimately an investment in the nation's future workforce and leadership.
The completion of the school hall has been delayed since 2020 due to financial constraints.
