Swapo Urged to Defend Unity and Reject Disinformation at Central Committee Meeting

Windhoek: President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has called on members of the Swapo Party to safeguard unity and resist misinformation, as the party convened its central committee meeting here on Saturday. Opening the session, Nandi-Ndaitwah paid tribute to CC member James Unomasa Uerikua and his son Venturo, who died in a car accident on 03 April 2026. Delegates also observed a moment of silence in their honour. 'Comrade Uerikua served this body with respect and commitment. To honour him, we must uphold the dignity of this institution,' she said.According to Namibia Press Agency, the meeting comes days after the ruling party marked its 66th anniversary, commemorating its founding on 19 April 1960. Nandi-Ndaitwah described the milestone as a testament to resilience and unity, extending congratulations to party members and Namibians. She also invited the public to attend anniversary celebrations on 26 April, which will include the inauguration of the party's new national headquarters, describing it as a symbol of renewal and progress.In her address, she also warned against division within party ranks. While acknowledging diversity of views, Nandi-Ndaitwah stressed that members must remain anchored in shared principles and the party's constitution. 'There are those who present falsehoods as facts to sow confusion, mistrust and disunity,' she said, adding that 'such efforts are deliberate and designed to undermine the strength and credibility of the Swapo Party.' The party president urged party leaders to act with discipline, communicate responsibly, and ensure internal debates strengthen rather than weaken the organisation.Nandi-Ndaitwah also highlighted progress in implementing the party's 2025-2030 election manifesto, particularly initiatives focused on youth development. These, she said, include the operational National Youth Development Fund and the introduction of fully subsidised registration and tuition fees aimed at expanding access to higher education. 'These are concrete interventions that are changing li ves and laying the foundation for a more equitable society,' Nandi-Ndaitwah maintained. She called on members to defend and communicate these achievements, describing them as evidence of a responsive government committed to improving living standards.Nandi-Ndaitwah further urged party leaders to recommit to unity and the ideals of the liberation struggle, warning against forces she said, 'seek to weaken the party.' 'We must ensure that the Swapo Party remains strong, united and forward-looking,' she said.
