Windhoek: OpenAI on Tuesday unveiled Atlas, a new web browser powered by ChatGPT at its core. OpenAI said that while Atlas resembles traditional web browsers in appearance and function, it is fundamentally built around the company's generative chatbot, ChatGPT. This integration enables users to seamlessly summon ChatGPT as they browse, generating summaries, answering questions, and performing tasks directly on any webpage.
According to Namibia Press Agency, OpenAI emphasized that a browser built with ChatGPT takes users closer to a true super-assistant that understands their world and helps them achieve their goals. In a statement, the company highlighted the transformative potential of this integration. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman described Atlas as a once-in-a-decade opportunity to reinvent the web browsing experience. He remarked on the evolving nature of internet usage, suggesting that just as the URL bar and search box were pivotal in the past, the chat experience and the browser could become essential analogues in the present.
The launch of ChatGPT Atlas was announced globally on Tuesday, initially available for macOS users across Free, Plus, Pro, and Go tiers, with a beta version for Business also available. OpenAI plans to expand access soon with versions for Windows, iOS, and Android.
