Oshana: The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Oshana Region has intensified security measures ahead of the Easter weekend, with additional roadblocks, increased patrols, and heightened traffic enforcement already underway. NamPol's Regional Commander for Oshana, Naftal Sakaria, informed Nampa that the operation officially commenced on Wednesday, with officers deployed across the region to prevent crime.

According to Namibia Press Agency, "Additional roadblocks, such as at Oneshoko, are already operational. Members are boots on the ground, and we are ready to go," Sakaria stated. He emphasized that all stakeholders, including the Namibia Revenue Agency and the Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security, have been briefed and are participating in a coordinated effort to ensure public safety during the Easter period.

Sakaria noted that the operation will place particular emphasis on visible policing and strict enforcement of traffic laws, including random checkpoints and a crackdown on drunk driving. "We want police officers to be seen. They will be around in communities. There will also be a huge focus on traffic law enforcement where we will have sporadic traffic checkpoints that will also focus on alcohol or drunk driving," he added.

He urged members of the public to take precautionary measures, including avoiding leaving valuables in parked vehicles and ensuring homes are not left unattended. "Park your vehicle where there is the presence of car guards. Do not leave valuable items in the vehicle. Have somebody look after your house just to make sure your properties are protected," he cautioned.

Sakaria further called on residents to cooperate with law enforcement by reporting suspicious activities and keeping emergency contact numbers readily available.
