Oshikoto region: Oshikoto Region Governor, Sacky Kathindi has announced plans to construct sports facilities in two rural constituencies, marking a significant step towards equitable infrastructure development across the region. Tsintsabis in the Guinas Constituency and Onyuulaye in the Okankolo Constituency have been selected as priority locations for the new sports complexes, according to Kathindi.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the selection of these two constituencies was based on the availability of serviced land, which will facilitate the construction process. The governor highlighted the role of the sports complexes in nurturing young talent, reducing youth delinquency, fostering wellness, and providing vibrant public spaces for the communities. Kathindi stressed that although only two constituencies have been selected for the current financial year, the plan is to eventually equip all eleven constituencies in the Oshikoto Region with standard sports facilities.

In addition to the sports complexes, Kathindi has committed to constructing a category two sports stadium in Omuthiya, which will have a seating capacity of 10,000 seats. He described these projects as symbolic of a promise that development will no longer bypass rural constituencies. The total cost for both the sports stadium and facilities is yet to be determined, as various procedural requirements are still pending.

In related infrastructure developments, the governor mentioned that two water boreholes have been identified in Oshivelo to serve the King Kauluma area and the communities of Eengodi and Nehale lya Mpingana. Kathindi confirmed that plans are underway and studies have already been completed regarding the water infrastructure project.
