Oshikoto: The Oshikoto Regional Council has resolved to utilise its generated income on the implementation of selected initiatives from the priority list of its small-scale projects.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the income generated between August 2024 and June 2025 came from 5 percent rates and taxes contributions by local authorities in the region, surcharges from electricity sales by distributors, and interest accrued on the regional council's capital project bank account.
Public relations officer of the regional council, Peter Nehale, stated in a media release that over N.dollars 800,000 will be allocated for the 2025/2026 financial year to implement selected small-scale projects. Nehale elaborated that N.dollars 220,000 will be dedicated to constructing a kitchen and dining hall for the learner community hostel at Onamishu Combined School in the Eengodi Constituency. This initiative will help the hostel meet requirements to qualify for food supply from the education ministry. At present, the hostel accommodates Grade 11 and 12 learners who rely on food from parents and donations.
Nehale also mentioned that N.dollars 190,000 will be spent on the construction of street lights at Limbu Growth Point in the Oniipa Constituency. Furthermore, N.dollars 180,000 will be allocated for erecting a security fence around the Oshivelo graveyard to prevent vandalism and unauthorized access. He noted that the unfenced graveyard was a critical issue, prompting the council to prioritize addressing this need.
Additionally, N.dollars 150,000 has been earmarked for rehabilitating a borehole at the Ondundu Gardening Project in the Tsumeb Constituency to revive operations. The garden is crucial for creating employment and contributing to food security in the region. The remaining funds will be used for planning and surveying various areas within the region, Nehale added.
