Windhoek: The 43-year-old man arrested on 17 August 2026 in Otjiwarongo on charges of raping a minor is now out on bail.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Vehonga Ndura was released from custody on 25 August 2026 after posting bail of N$10,000. The release followed an agreement between State prosecutor Wendy Nkando and Ndura's defense lawyer, Zamuee Vezemboua, as documented in the charge sheet reviewed by Nampa. Initially, Ndura was to appear in court on 07 September 2026, but the matter was expedited, allowing his release on 25 August 2026.

Prosecutor Nkando informed Nampa that the victim's mother and the 15-year-old girl herself did not oppose bail, contingent upon specific conditions for Ndura's release. "Therefore, I did not oppose bail on 25 August 2026, because the victim and her mother indicated so in written statements," Nkando stated. The case remains a State matter.

The charge sheet further notes that Ndura paid the bail on the same day and was subsequently released. Magistrate Gianni Beukes set conditions for Ndura's release, prohibiting him from contacting the alleged victim in any form and from interfering with the ongoing police investigation.

Ndura is scheduled to reappear in court on 04 November 2026, granting law enforcement additional time for investigation completion. During Ndura's initial court appearance on 18 August 2026, prosecutor Nkando opposed bail, citing the gravity of the offense and potential interference with the investigation.

The arrest occurred on 17 August 2026, following accusations that Ndura raped a 15-year-old Grade 8 student at a local guesthouse in Otjiwarongo.
