Otjiwarongo: The Otjiwarongo Municipality has officially handed over a section of the C38 dual carriageway to the Chinese construction company, Henan International Cooperation Organisation (CHICO), for rehabilitation. The site handover, which took place on Monday, was attended by local authority councillors.According to Namibia Press Agency, Municipality Chief Executive Officer Mberipura Hifitikeko noted during a briefing that the rehabilitation project, which is scheduled to last six months, will cost nearly N$29 million. The project covers approximately 1.7 kilometers of the road and is expected to be completed by March 2027. Hifitikeko indicated that motorists should anticipate interference with traffic flow during the project and urged patience.The C38 road section undergoing rehabilitation is located west of Otjiwarongo towards Outjo and serves as a link to the B1 main road. Hifitikeko mentioned that the project funding was secured from the Road Fund Administration through the Roads Authority.CHICO , a Chinese state-owned company, is the main contractor for the project. Site project manager Wang Lin stated in an interview with Nampa at the site on Monday that construction began the same day, with expectations to create nearly 60 semi-skilled jobs. Wang highlighted that rehabilitation requires specialised skills and heavy machinery, with a few subcontractors engaged for additional services.In previous years, CHICO has rehabilitated and resurfaced nearly 20 tarred roads in Otjiwarongo, spanning from 2024 to 2026.
