Otjozondjupa Swapo leadership calls for urgent meeting

The Swapo Party’s Otjozondjupa Regional Executive Committee on Wednesday called for an urgent meeting, to be followed by a media conference at the regional headquarters in Otjiwarongo on Saturday.

Party regional treasurer, Patrik Xoagub, who sent out the invitation letters, said the seven Swapo Party regional district committee members decided for the meeting and a press conference the same day.

“The two are primarily aimed at clarifying and providing the latest information on the political situation in the region,” he said in an interview with Nampa on Wednesday morning.

Some executive committee members from Tsumkwe, Grootfontein, Okahandja, Otavi, Otjiwarongo, Okakarara and Omatako are expected to attend, he said.

Acting Otjozondjupa regional coordinator, Clive Kavendjii is expected to chair the meeting, said Xoagub.

Kavendjii has been acting Otjozondjupa regional coordinator since 06 December 2021, when the regional coordinator, Susan Hikopua, was allegedly indefinitely suspended by the same regional executive committee for allegedly having have abused her political office powers during her tenure, insubordination towards the regional executive committee and for the alleged abuse of the party’s finances and properties for her personal gain, among others.

Hikopua on Wednesday denied knowledge of any planned Saturday meeting and subsequent media conference.

“I am not aware of such a thing. I am right here in the Swapo office, therefore, to me that Saturday meeting is news,” she said.
