Omaheke region: Racehorse Pee Jay from Burger Racing clinched victory in the sixth edition of the MTC Winter Cup, held at the Tsjaka Ben Hur racetrack in the Omaheke Region. The event, which took place on Saturday, attracted over 70 racehorses competing in 19 different plates, including the main 2,400-meter race.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Pee Jay, a thoroughbred horse, faced stiff competition from Angermund Racing's Whisper, who secured second place, and Desert Fox from Khomas Turf, who finished third in the fiercely contested plate. Pee Jay was awarded a trophy and N.dollars 11,250, while Whisper and Desert Fox received N.dollars 6,750 and N.dollars 4,500, respectively.
The event also featured notable performances in other races. In the Nambred A-Division 2,000m plate, Katiti Komambo from Okahandja Racing emerged victorious, leaving behind Angermund Racing's Scofield and Professor Supporters Club's Bin Laden in second and third places, respectively. Eamon Freygang's King Celtillus claimed the 1,800m sprint title, followed by Otjinene Supporters Club's Chief Helmet and Weerlig Mootu. In the Nambred 1,400m race, White Nossob from Tallismanus Racing took first place, with Miss Chickas of Cucili Feris and Naris Turf Club's Try Me rounding out the top three.
Pee Jay's owner, Sakkie Burger, expressed his excitement about the victory in an interview with Nampa on Sunday. He credited the win to Pee Jay's rigorous training and maintenance. Burger also highlighted his ambition to elevate Pee Jay to be among the top horses in the country and expressed satisfaction with the positive atmosphere at local horse racing competitions. Looking ahead, Burger is eager to challenge Botswana's top horse, Western Bypass, in an upcoming race competition in Botswana.
