A two-year-old girl died Saturday night at Oshivelo after her mouth and eyes were allegedly filled with sand by a seven-year-old boy who was playing with her at a house.

The Namibian Police Force’s national weekend crime report availed on Monday indicates that the deceased and the boy were the only two occupants in the house at the time of the incident.

After the girl had died, the boy allegedly covered her body with a blanket and moved it to one of the traditional rooms inside the house, the report read.

“The boy then informed some other children he spotted at a distance from their house who upon confirming the incident, ran to the cucashops where they alerted their parents, who in turn called in the police,” the report read.

A murder case has been opened at the Oshivelo Police Station, while an autopsy is expected to be performed on the little girl’s body to determine the exact cause of death.

Police investigations continue.
