Project Never Walk Alone (PNWA) will provide learners from different schools in the Kunene Region with 1 250 pairs of school shoes in March, and hand over 2 000 pairs in the Oshana Region in May.

This was accomplished through the Great50 Pledge initiative, which honoured 50 of Namibia’s most philanthropic individuals by recognising their contributions to society and inspiring a culture of appreciation and individual social responsibility.

The initiative raised over N.dollars 3 million, with 340 guests attending a black-tie recognition dinner in Windhoek on Saturday.

PNWA Founder Tim Ekandjo said the three presidents of Namibia – founding President Sam Nujoma, former President Hifikepunye Pohamba and current President Hage Geingob – are among the Great50 recipients, along with other deserving people who uphold the human spirit.

“We believe that there is only one way to avoid criticism, do nothing, say nothing and be nothing, but that is not the Namibia and Africa the project wants to create. Individuals have the power to change the world and even more so, when we unite for a common cause,” he said.

“We want to advance the idea of individual social responsibility, which instils the moral conviction that it is our responsibility as individuals to act always in the interests and greater good of society,” he added.

Thirty of the 50 participants voluntarily pledged a sum of N.dollars 100 000 each. Pledges from attendees added another N.dollars 138 000 to the night’s total fundraising of N.dollars 3 138 000.
