Windhoek:The children of the late Penehupifo Pohamba have vowed to support and care for their father, former President Hifikepunye Pohamba, following the passing of their mother. The commitment was made during a memorial service held at Parliament Gardens, where Ndapanda Pohamba spoke on behalf of her siblings.

According to NAMPA, Ndapanda Pohamba promised her mother before her death that the children would assume the responsibility of looking after their father. Addressing her 91-year-old father, she emphasized that their mother need not have worried about his care, as the children would now step in to support him.

The late First Lady, who passed away at a hospital in Windhoek on October 17 at the age of 78, was married to Namibia's second President, who served from 2005 to 2015. Ndapanda acknowledged the irreplaceable loss of their mother while assuring her father that he would not have to face his grief alone.

She reiterated her commitment to her father, stating that although the family could not substitute their mother's presence or alleviate the pain of her absence, they would provide him with the love and care she once did. This promise to support their father was made as a tribute to their mother's memory and her wishes.

During the memorial, Ndapanda also reflected on her mother's joyous spirit, recalling a video of her dancing at family gatherings, which encapsulated the happiness she brought into their lives. Additionally, she shared a personal note about her pregnancy, revealing that her parents were thrilled by the news earlier this year, and promised to impart her mother's values to her child.
