Windhoek:Popular Democratic Movement (PDM) leader, McHenry Venaani, on Saturday delivered a heartfelt tribute to former First Lady Penehupifo Pohamba, highlighting her role as a mother figure whose love and kindness reached beyond political divides.

According to NAMPA, Venaani expressed his deep affection for former President Hifikepunye Pohamba, considering him a father, while mourning Penehupifo Pohamba as a mother. He recalled the development of his relationship with Pohamba despite their political differences when both served as secretaries-general of their respective political parties.

Venaani shared a poignant memory of receiving a message of condolence from Pohamba after the death of his own mother, a gesture that was uncommon given the political tensions between their parties at the time. This message included condolences from both Pohamba and his wife, Penehupifo, which Venaani found deeply touching.

Reflecting on his personal loss at a young age, Venaani empathized with Pohamba's grief, acknowledging the profound impact of losing a spouse. He praised Penehupifo Pohamba's legacy in healthcare, noting her dedication as a nurse and midwife, which she continued during her husband's presidency, maintaining her connection with the Namibian people.

Venaani described Penehupifo Pohamba as a woman whose character and service to others spoke volumes, earning her respect without the need for loud declarations or dominating presence.
