Windhoek: The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) reported two attempted murder cases, as well as a culpable homicide, drownings, and several inquests among serious incidents recorded over the weekend. A weekend crime bulletin issued by NamPol spokesperson Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi on Sunday detailed the incidents, highlighting a series of alarming events that took place in various regions.
According to Namibia Press Agency, at Groot-Aub, a 21-year-old male suspect is in police custody following an alleged stabbing at a bar on Friday. Shikwambi noted that the suspect found the victim playing jackpot machines at the bar, which led to an argument. The suspect allegedly pushed the victim, leading to a fight, before running outside and returning with a broken beer bottle. Police allege that the suspect then stabbed the victim on the left side of the neck. The victim sustained serious open cut wounds and was transported to Katutura State Hospital, where he is receiving medical treatment.
In another attempted murder case, an adult man was allegedly assaulted outside a bar in Arandis on Saturday night. Shikwambi stated that a 25-year-old Namibian male suspect allegedly assaulted the victim, who fell to the ground. The suspect allegedly repeatedly kicked the victim on the head until he became unconscious. The victim sustained serious injuries and was taken to Arandis State Clinic before being transferred to Swakopmund State Hospital. He was later transferred to a Walvis Bay hospital in critical condition. The motive is unknown, according to police, while the suspect is in custody.
Meanwhile, a 33-year-old Namibian man died in a suspected culpable homicide on the B1 road north of Rehoboth at about 06h00 on Friday. Police allege that the driver of a bus struck the man, who was walking in the road. The man's next of kin have been informed.
In the Zambezi Region, two Zambian males, aged 43 and six, drowned on Saturday while attempting to cross the Mpukano river channel in the Ikaba area of the Kabbe South Constituency. Police said the two were traveling with the older man's wife and two children in a canoe from one village to another when a hippopotamus struck the canoe, causing it to capsize. The two males fell into the water and drowned. Their next of kin have been informed.
In Katutura, a 33-year-old man died after a vehicle he was repairing fell on him at an open area at about 11h30 on Friday. Police said the man was fixing the vehicle from underneath when the jack moved, causing the vehicle to fall on him. He died at the scene. Police investigations in all matters continue.
