Rössing Uranium has handed four police vehicles over to the Namibian Police Force in the Erongo Region after the vehicles were repaired by artisans employed at the mine.

The repairs, valued at N.dollars 350 000, followed a request by NamPol Regional Commander, Commissioner Nikolaus Kupembona to the mine to assist with major services, mechanical repairs and body works on seven vehicles belonging to the Walvis Bay, Swakopmund, Arandis and Karibib police stations.

The remaining three vehicles will be handed over once repairs have been completed.

Speaking at the handover on Wednesday, Rössing Uranium Managing Director Johan Coetzee said as a business driven to honour its corporate social responsibility, the company immediately jumped on board to assist with the repairing of the vehicles.

“Having a fully functional fleet is crucial to the Namibian Police Force to continue with its daily operations. I am glad that Rössing Uranium was able to support NamPol because the work they do benefits us all. We hope that this support will bring relief to the Erongo police team’s fleet,” Coetzee stated.

Commissioner Kupembona expressed satisfaction with the relationships the police force has established with certain stakeholders.

“Rössing Uranium’s slogan of ‘Working for the Namibian people’ is a true reflection of what they have done for the force and continue to do for the Namibian people. As law enforcement, we are really glad to associate ourselves with this company. We are so grateful that Rössing Uranium has come to our aid at a very crucial time in terms of mobility. Without sufficient mobility, we might not be able to render effective services to our communities,” Kupembona stated.

The commissioner commended Rössing Uranium’s willingness to contribute to law enforcement in the region, noting that it will make the force’s job easier especially during the festive season.
