Rundu: Following their return to the Namibia Premier Football League, Rundu Chiefs are actively strengthening their squad in preparation for the 2025/2026 season, where they aim to compete for glory.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Epangero, as the Rundu Chiefs are known among their support base, had a stellar season, reigning supreme in the North East First Division Football League. The Rundu-based outfit has rejoined the top-flight football after being relegated eight years ago and has replaced Cuca Tops, whose time in the top league was brief, lasting just one season.
As the new football season approaches, Rundu Chiefs are making strategic moves with the signing of several promising and professional footballers. Speaking to Nampa on Friday, the team's manager Piaz Kamuanga stated that Epangero is busy with training as they seek to fortify their ranks in all positions. "The club is keen to build a more competitive team that can challenge for silverware. We want to build a formidable team, one that will be among the top. We are not here just to add numbers and compete; we want to win," he emphasised.
Kamuanga mentioned that the team has been active during the transfer window, securing players he believes will make an impact and strengthen the squad for the upcoming season while expressing confidence in the newly reshaped squad. "We are currently in training with all the new signings and have plans to add more players as well. We have carefully selected players who not only have the skills but also the right attitude to help Rundu Chiefs achieve its goals," he said.
Epangero has recently secured the services of 21-year-old Keetmanshoop-born shot-stopper on a two-year contract from Young Brazilians, a player who also had a stint with Civics. It also signed versatile defender Johannes Shifafure Dilen, who previously played for Julinho Athletic, Orlando Pirates, and Bucks Buccaneers, as well as McCartney Naweseb, who had previously played in the Botswana Premier League with Matebele FC and the Walvis Bay outfit Blue Waters.
The club has also announced new appointments, with Rusten Mogane as the assistant technical director, Tomas Matias as head coach to be deputised by Galil Palvin. Kafimbi Daniel will serve as the assistant goalkeeper coach, with Hairwa Olavi as the team doctor and Christophine Shiwedha as the assistant team medic.
