Windhoek: The Rundu Annual Trade Fair is set to take place from 25 to 30 October 2026, with the Rundu Town Council highlighting its potential to boost investment, business growth, and job creation in the town. Rundu Town Council Strategic Executive for Community Services, Fransiska Kupembona, shared these insights during the fourth Rundu Mayoral Business Forum held in Rundu last week.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Kupembona emphasized that the trade fair has evolved beyond a simple business exhibition. Exhibitors now utilize the event to analyze the local market and explore opportunities for establishing permanent businesses in Rundu. Kupembona noted that several businesses, such as Payless Namibia Store and Shikongo Leather Works Namibia, began as exhibitors and later established permanent operations in the town. She highlighted this trend as evidence of the trade fair's economic significance, noting its role in enabling business expansion, job creation, and customer base growth.
Kupembona further pointed out that the trade fair significantly benefits the hospitality industry, with hotels and guesthouses experiencing increased demand during the event. She explained that visitors and exhibitors staying at local accommodations contribute to the town's business revenue. Kupembona mentioned that the council is collaborating with financial institutions, private companies, and other businesses to enhance the trade fair through partnerships and sponsorships.
Kupembona encouraged businesses in Rundu and its surrounding areas to participate in the event and contribute to the town's economic progress. She added that the trade fair attracts businesses from neighboring Angola, fostering opportunities for cross-border trade and providing local businesses with access to new markets.
In addition to the trade fair, the council plans to organize activities such as a mayoral sports tournament to promote sports and community engagement. The official opening ceremony of the trade fair is scheduled for 26 October. Kupembona urged businesses and stakeholders to support the event through sponsorships and strategic partnerships.
