Kigali:Rwanda and China have reaffirmed their dedication to strengthening bilateral cooperation during a reception held in Kigali. The event marked the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the anniversary celebration was attended by representatives from the Rwandan government, diplomatic missions, academia, media, and the Chinese community. Usta Kaitesi, Rwanda's minister of state for foreign affairs, congratulated China on its anniversary and praised its achievements in various sectors. She highlighted the significant expansion of Rwanda-China relations since 1971, covering areas such as infrastructure, agriculture, education, health, energy, trade, investment, and capacity building. Kaitesi noted that the elevation of the relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership in 2024 marked an important milestone.

Chinese Ambassador to Rwanda Gao Wenqi also spoke at the event, emphasizing the growing strength of China-Rwanda relations since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1971. He pointed out the record bilateral trade volume of 849 million U.S. dollars in 2025 and a 42 percent increase in Rwanda's exports to China, reaching 227 million dollars. Gao mentioned the expansion of Chinese investment in sectors like manufacturing, cement, agriculture, food processing, and vehicle assembly.

Additionally, Gao highlighted cooperation in education and skills development, noting that around 150 Rwandan students received scholarships to study in China this year, and over 300 Rwandan experts participated in specialized training programs. A photo exhibition showcased the achievements of China-Rwanda cooperation in various fields, including infrastructure, trade, healthcare, and cultural exchanges, as well as China's advancements in science, technology, and ecological conservation.
