Windhoek: Zambezi Region Governor Lawrence Sampofu officially commissioned two new ambulances for the regional health directorate. The ambulances are part of a broader initiative to enhance healthcare services across Namibia.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the ambulances are among the 36 recently commissioned by Health and Social Services Minister, Dr. Esperance Luvindao, in Windhoek. These vehicles are intended for deployment across all regions to improve emergency medical services.

Regional Health Director Woita Kapumburu acknowledged that while the two ambulances will not resolve all issues, they represent a commitment to improving the region's healthcare system. He announced that the region is expected to receive two more ambulances in the coming weeks.

Governor Sampofu expressed gratitude to the government, emphasizing the reduction in reliance on private ambulances for referrals from Katima Mulilo. He cautioned against misuse of the ambulances and stressed the importance of timely response to emergencies in various localities.

Sampofu also highlighted President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah's focus on service delivery improvements, attributing the acquisition of ambulances to this commitment.

In a related development, Katima Mulilo Urban Constituency Councillor Kennedy Simasiku recently addressed the need for upgrades at the Katima Mulilo District Hospital, citing a lack of equipment and facilities that forces patients to travel long distances for medical care.
