Zambezi: The second leg of the Zambezi volleyball regional league is set to commence this Saturday and will continue until 16 August 2026. Zambezi Volleyball Association (ZVA) acting chairperson Kamwi Sezuni shared insights on the event, emphasizing the league's inclusive nature with both male and female teams participating.According to Namibia Press Agency, the league currently features 14 registered teams, comprising six female and eight male teams. Sezuni expressed a desire to see increased youth involvement in the league, with clubs integrating and nurturing young talent across competitive levels. He highlighted the role of sport as a conduit for youth potential in the region, describing volleyball as more than just a game but a "classroom without walls."To enhance this impact, the ZVA plans to prioritize grassroots development, advocating for more qualified coaches in schools and increasing the number of volleyball courts in communities to nurture young talents early. Sezuni acknowledged the recent d ecline in the region's performance at the national level but remains optimistic about the future. He emphasized the importance of focusing on youth development to restore the region's competitive edge and takes pride in local athletes who have represented Namibia on the international stage.Financially, the league depends on team fees for operational costs and awards, with Real Cheetah VC and Vixens VC currently leading the men's and women's categories, respectively. Sezuni also extended an invitation to sponsors to support the league, as teams vie for regional championship titles and qualification spots.
