Windhoek: Sikosinyana Senior Secondary School in the Sibbinda Constituency in the Zambezi Region successfully concluded its annual inter-school sports tournament over the weekend. The tournament attracted 20 participating secondary school teams from across the region.According to Namibia Press Agency, regional powerhouses from the Chinchimane circuit dominated both football and netball, ultimately reaching the semi-finals. In football, Simataa Senior Secondary School (SSS) scooped first prize, with Sangwali SSS taking second, Sangwali Combined School (CS) third, and Malengalenga CS in fourth. In netball, Sangwali claimed first prize; Sangwali SSS took second; Malengalenga placed third; and Simataa SSS finished fourth.Although the host school was knocked out in the preliminary rounds, Sikosinyana principal Harris Tuombale emphasized that the school will continue to host the annual tournament, as it fosters unity and discipline, helping learners succeed in both sports and academics. "Tournaments like these are important because they promote holistic development, combining physical health with academic excellence. They teach teamwork, respect, and resilience, allowing learners from different backgrounds to bond through healthy competition," Tuombale stated.He said sports keep the youth active, focused, and engaged, which helps reduce negative behaviors on school grounds and in their home communities.
