Windhoek: David Mbida, a 39-year-old security guard, was fatally shot while on duty at a lounge in Wanaheda, Windhoek. His colleagues have described him as a dedicated and punctual worker.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Mbida was allegedly shot by a customer who refused to pay the entrance fee of N.dollars 30. The suspect initially fled the scene but later turned himself in to the police.
Ruben Shivolo, a DJ at the lounge, recounted the chaotic scene, describing how customers were running and jumping over counters. Mbida came in from outside, seeking help and bleeding profusely. Shivolo initially thought Mbida had been stabbed, but it became clear he was shot. Mbida was rushed to the hospital but had lost significant blood.
Tuyenikelao Alfeus, the bartender, remembered Mbida as a reliable colleague who was always willing to help. She noted that they had all started working together in November 2024 and had become like family.
Mbida's cousin, Natalia Naholo, described him as a loving father and brother dedicated to providing for his family and three children. She expressed the family's shock and their desire for justice.
According to a crime report from Namibian Police Force spokesperson Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi, the incident took place around 23h00 on Friday. The suspect shot Mbida through the mouth after a quarrel escalated into a physical confrontation. The suspect has been arrested and the firearm confiscated, with police investigations ongoing.
Mbida succumbed to his injuries on Saturday afternoon.
