Otjozondjupa: The special voting process in the 2025 Regional Councils and Local Authorities Elections commenced promptly in the seven constituencies of the Otjozondjupa Region on Monday. The Electoral Commission of Namibia's (ECN) Otjozondjupa Regional Electoral Officer, Victoria Amutenya, stated that the voting process at Tsumkwe, Grootfontein, Otavi, Otjiwarongo, Okakarara, Omatako, and Okahandja constituencies began at 09h00 and will continue until 19h00 on Monday.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Amutenya confirmed that there were no issues or challenges encountered thus far, and the process was functioning well. Charlotte Jantze, the ECN Returning Officer for the Otjiwarongo Constituency, mentioned that voters in the special election are already listed, and the papers containing their names are with the presiding officers at each polling station.
Jantze explained that these voters include police officers and ECN officials who will be deployed to farms and other constituencies on the mass voting day, scheduled for 26 November 2025. She also noted that the ECN expects only a limited number of voters in the Otjiwarongo Constituency for the special election.
Hilde Shipanga, the Returning Officer for Grootfontein Constituency, reported that the process was proceeding well, although only five people had voted by 10h00 on Monday. In Okakarara, ECN Returning Officer Lukas Nyumbu stated in a telephonic interview that the voting process was going smoothly, and all those listed would have the opportunity to vote before the polls close at 19h00 on Monday.
The first voter in Otjiwarongo on Monday morning was Inspector Johannes Mweetako, a NamPol member deployed to work at Okakarara on the mass voting day. He commented that the voting process was straightforward and efficient.
